After a split 7-2
ruling, the US Supreme Court has declared that the current method of execution is not "cruel and unusual punishment." Following this decesion, it is expected that executions will begin to resume after a 7 month hiatus that began in September. The case was brought to the attention of the Supreme Court due to arguments that the current "3-drug" form of lethal injection could be extremely painful. Those presenting the case claimed that the pain of cardiac arrest could be masked by the paralysis resulting from the first administered drug. However the court, in their decesion, countered the argument stating that the method does not violate the constitution because it does not threaten a "substantial risk of serious harm."
Good decesion by the Supreme Court in this case. While executions should not be used for the purpose of causing pain, if it happens to be a side effect then so be it; sometimes pain is necessary. Also I doubt the thought of causing too much pain even crossed the person's mind when they did whatever it was that landed them in death row (assuming that they are guilty). Should executions be done in the most humane way possibly? Yes. But should people feel bad that there is a little pain involved? I think not.

Michigan teen Jean Pierre Orlewicz was today found
guilty of murder. During the murder, Orlewicz first stabbed victim Daniel Sorenson repeatedly then decapitated and burned the body. The confrontation that resulted in the murder apparently occurred due to a failed planned robbery. Although originally planning to take part in the robbery, Orlewicz claimed that he later changed his mind which aggravated Sorenson. Orlewicz claimed that he was acting in self-defense after Sorenson threatened him and that his actions where guided by his panicked state.
First off, good job to the jury not buying into the ridiculous self-defense claim. It could be believable that Orlewicz was acting in self-defense when he first stabbed the victim, maybe even the few times after that, but 13 times seems less like protection and more like anger. Furthermore, any rational person would report the attack to the police and then argue that it was self-defense. Burning and hiding a body sounds more like the actions of a person that knows they just committed murder. Also its worth mentioning another teen, Alexander Letkemann, who watched the murder in progress and did nothing.

Again Barack Obama has been forced to explain recent
comments. This time he has been accused of criticizing small town voters.
"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, a lot of them — like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they’ve gone through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, and they cling to guns, or religion, or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment, or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
In reply to his opponents attacks, Obama has stated that for most of his life he has been in those "low-income communities."
For the most part the comments Obama made about small towns are true. I use to live in a small town and I've seen this "bitterness" first hand; its just human nature to blame something else for your problems. Also it is unfortunate that Obama is frequently becoming attacked for his statements. It seems as if he is just trying to point out some of areas of concern in America in an effort to fix them. Politics should be more about candidates working towards improving the country, not them trying to create and expose their opponents' flaws.

Recently, Actor Rob Lowe's Former Nanny came out with
allegations of sexual harassment. The nanny, Jessica Gibson, claims that while working for the Lowe Family she was subject to groping and sexual conversations. Lowe responding by claiming that these allegations are just an extortion attempt.
The odd thing about this case is that the nanny continued to work for the Lowes for a seven year period; why wait until now to make these allegations? It seems like the nanny is looking for her 15 minutes of fame and hoping to make a little money along the way. Clearly this nanny is an idiot whether the allegations or true or not.

Dr. Phil is again on the search to
cash in on some sad story. This time he's set his sights on the recent incident of six girls beating down one other girl. In an attempt to claim exclusive rights over the story, someone connected to Dr. Phil appears to have posted the $33,000 bail for one of the accused attackers. Of course Dr. Phil is denying that he had any involvement in the bail and that it was an independent decision by the producer that supplied the money.
Unfortunately for that producer and Dr.Phil, a gag order has been placed on the case meaning that no one can interview the girl. The incident of the beating itself is an incredible representation of some true stupidity; this just further adds to it and drags Dr. Phil into the mess.

It seems that the world is full of stupidity. Sometimes that stupidity can be funny, other times it can be infuriating. Either way there is usually some lesson to be learned from any example. In this blog I'm gonna try to point out a few of the stupid things I see in the world, whether that be in the news or just in my daily life.
